Ultra-light flywheel made of high-quality EN8 steel, weighing approx. 3.9 kg.
It is said that ‘1 lb less on the flywheel corresponds to a weight reduction of 100 lbs on the vehicle.’ This is not entirely rational, but it is close. This rule of thumb shows how important the performance of the flywheel is. The standard 1275 cc cast iron flywheel weighs almost 22 lbs. Even the ‘Cooper S’ flywheel weighs almost 17 lbs. The standard flywheel is made of cast iron and is therefore not very safe if it needs to be made lighter.
This new one-piece ‘Race’ steel flywheel weighs just under 4 kg and provides a huge improvement in acceleration. Not recommended for road use.
