Land Rover: Series II, IIA and III except 3.5 V8 and 1-ton models (1958-85)
for tightening up the locking nut on the gearbox mainshaft
This special socket is used for tightening up the castle nut on the end of the gearbox output shaft to a torque of 85lbf.ft.
This tool is designed to accept a 1/2" drive wrench.
We strongly recommends you use this tool with a new mainshaft lock nut (part no. 356719). This is to ensure optimum engagement of the teeth on the tool and the mainshaft lock nut. It is not uncommon to find mainshaft lock nuts that have been tightened using hammer and chisel.
