Note on the size of the windscreen seal
It is correct and intentional that the front and rear windscreen seals on MGB GTs, Minis and some Jaguars are larger than the windscreens themselves. We therefore recommend the following procedure for fitting the windscreen.
1. First, place the windscreen seal onto the body rebate.
2. The seal is now under tension.
3. Slide the windscreen into the seal (using plenty of washing-up liquid).
4. Insert the tension strip using a special tool. The sealing lips are now under tension and seal the windscreen.
5. Fit the trim strip covering the tension strip using a special tool.
This is the only way it works. The seal is larger so that it presses against the rebate and the window under pressure. This is the only way to ensure the window is sealed. This system also applies to the Mini and various Jaguar models. It is not advisable to fit the rubber around the window first. With this method, a broken window is virtually guaranteed.
Very important: Do not pull the seal in using a string, as this stretches it and it will no longer fit!
